Social Value
Over 25 years of caring for the community

At Lowfield Timber Frames, social value isn’t an initiative – it’s part of who we are. We believe that success should be measured not only by the buildings we create, but by the positive impact we have on our people, our communities and the environment.

From investing in employee health and wellbeing, supporting local charities and community projects, to inspiring the next generation through education and promoting sustainable construction, we are committed to making a meaningful difference wherever we can.

Whether through fundraising, volunteering, sharing knowledge or using our expertise to support worthwhile causes, we take pride in creating lasting value beyond the projects we deliver.

We can also support contractors looking to deliver their social value commitments by providing opportunities to generate meaningful social value credits through our community, education, environmental and charitable activities. If you are a contractor looking for ways to strengthen the social value element of your project, get in touch with our team to discuss how Lowfield Timber Frames could help.

This page highlights some of the ways we are working to build stronger communities, support those around us and leave a positive legacy for the future.

Fundraising for Local Causes

Over the last five years, we have proudly raised more than £30,000 for local mental health and cancer charities, including Shropshire Mental Health Support, Ponthafren, Bracken Trust and Lingen Davies Cancer Support. This has been achieved through a wide range of fundraising activities such as Spin-a-thons, cake sales, Pie & Pudding Evenings, raffles and running events, all of which have brought our community together in support of these important causes. We are also proud corporate sponsors of the Welshpool 10k, helping to ensure this valued local event can continue to take place, keeping the community active while also enabling participants to raise significant funds for charity.

If you would like to donate to this year’s fundraising efforts in aid of the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund, you can do so via our JustGiving page.

DIY SOS- The Big Build

In 2023 we donated our specialist timber frame design and manufacturing expertise to a “DIY SOS-Big Build” project in Risley, Derby for a special 10th-anniversary Children in Need episode.

The kit was manufactured at our factory on the Shropshire/ Mid Wales border with the pre-insulated
panels and roof cassettes erected on site in just 3 days, creating the external structure for a bespoke children’s counselling and therapy centre at Treetops Hospice.

The centre will hugely benefit bereaved children and their families across Derbyshire. Treetops works primarily with young people who are experiencing traumatic grief. The support they receive is invaluable, life-changing and helps them work through their grief. Improving mental health and wellbeing, Treetops is recognised as a centre of excellence for children’s counselling.

School Visits

At Lowfield Timber Frames, we are passionate about inspiring the next generation by working with local schools to educate students about sustainable construction and the benefits of building with timber. Through interactive presentations and hands-on workshops, students learn about Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), offsite manufacturing, and why timber is one of the most sustainable building materials available.

We also demonstrate that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to insulation, introducing pupils to a range of natural and high-performance insulation products, including cellulose, wood fibre and mineral wool, and explaining how each contributes to creating warm, energy-efficient, low-carbon buildings.

By giving students the opportunity to build timber wall panels using different insulation types, we help bring sustainable construction to life while encouraging future careers in the built environment.

Arbor Memory Bench

In August 2024, we made a beautiful arbour bench outside the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund Centre. Lingen Davies was our charity of the year, and during discussions we wanted to know how we could help the charity in more ways other than monetary donations. Discussions led to an arbour bench in memory of a much loved character.

We placed it at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in memory of Will ‘Choc’ Roberts. Will died aged 26 in December 2022 after bravely battling a brain tumour. During the unveiling, Will’s parents Dave and Sue Roberts described the bench as an incredibly fitting legacy.

Cancer Champions & Mental Health First Aid

Here at Lowfield Timber Frames, we have 8 trained Cancer Champions. Cancer Champions come from a diverse range of backgrounds and want to reduce the fears and barriers people may face in looking after their health. They are willing to talk to others to help reduce stigma around cancer, busting myths and sharing key messages. They want to make a real difference to people’s health by spreading the word that spotting cancer early saves lives.

We are so proud to have our own employees trained up as Mental Health First Aiders. Each has successfully completed their Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training, equipping them with the skills to recognise the triggers and signs of mental health challenges. They now have the confidence to step in, offer reassurance and support, and guide individuals towards appropriate professional help when needed.

Employee Well being

At Lowfield Timber Frames, the health, safety and wellbeing of our employees is a top priority. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive and positive working environment through regular health and safety training, ongoing occupational health assessments and proactive wellbeing initiatives. We also encourage healthy lifestyles by offering a Cycle to Work scheme, helping employees improve their physical wellbeing while reducing their environmental impact.

Factory Tours

At Lowfield Timber Frames, we regularly welcome a wide range of visitors to our manufacturing facility, including local Young Farmers groups, Members of Parliament, university students, industry professionals and governing bodies. We believe the best way to understand modern timber frame construction is to see it in action. Our factory tours provide first-hand insight into the skill, precision and innovation involved in designing and manufacturing high-quality timber frame systems, while showcasing the people, processes and technology behind every project. By opening our doors, we aim to educate, inspire and promote a greater understanding of sustainable offsite construction and the opportunities it offers.

If you are interested in visiting us for a factory tour, get in touch with the team today at enquiries@ltf.uk.com or give us a call on 01743 891922.

Supporting the Local Community
Guilsfield Scout Hut

Over the last few years, we have seen the size of our builds get bigger and bigger, and the majority of our work being large commercial projects such as hotels, schools and housing developments. That’s why when we get an opportunity to get involved in community projects that benefit our local area, we jump at them.

Carried out as part of main contractor Pave Aways’ community benefits programme, the project allows youth groups in Guilsfield to enjoy a raft of outdoor activities. The build consisted of a covered outdoor space in the grounds of the Guilsfield Jubilee Hut that local scout and guide groups will be able to use as a camp kitchen and to hold outdoor meetings.

Supporting Outdoor Play

We’re proud to have donated timber to support Chirbury CE Primary School / Shropshire Hills Federation with the continued development of their OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) provision.

Our timber will be used to build a variety of imaginative play features. These new additions will provide children with more opportunities for creative, hands-on and active play, while helping to develop important skills such as problem-solving, teamwork and imagination.

DIY Picnic Bench

Supporting our local community is an important part of what we do at Lowfield Timber Frames, and we have worked closely with local mental health charities through a variety of fundraising and community initiatives. One project that stands out was our collaboration with Ponthafren, where we supplied the timber and provided step-by-step instructions to build a picnic bench for their community garden at Powis Castle. The bench has created a welcoming space where visitors can relax, connect with others and enjoy the therapeutic outdoor environment, leaving a lasting legacy that supports positive mental wellbeing.
