We were delighted to welcome 10 Professional Forester Apprentices to Lowfield Timber Frames on 16th July as part of their Wood Utilisation and Processing module, which is co-delivered by the University of Cumbria and the Forestry Commission.
The visit began with a presentation exploring how timber is transformed from a natural resource into a high-performance construction product. Topics included wood formation and properties, timber utilisation, market applications, and the important role timber plays in delivering sustainable, low-carbon construction.
The apprentices also learned about our timber supply chain, including where our timber is sourced, the importance of responsible forestry, the challenges surrounding wood supply and quality, and why timber is one of the most sustainable building materials available, helping to support the transition towards net zero housebuilding.
The day concluded with a guided tour of our manufacturing facility, where the group saw first-hand how sustainably sourced timber is precision engineered into timber frame panels for homes, schools, and other buildings across the UK.
At Lowfield Timber Frames, we’re passionate about sharing knowledge and inspiring the next generation of forestry and construction professionals.
Thank you to the University of Cumbria, the Forestry Commission and everyone who joined us—we hope you found the day both informative and enjoyable.
