Education Buildings Wales 2025
Lowfield Timber Frames recently exhibited at Education Buildings Wales 2025. The event featured a range of insightful sessions focused on sustainability and innovation in education building design.
The conference was delivered bilingually, with Welsh spoken in many of the plenary sessions. It reflected the importance of language and culture in the Welsh education sector.
Two Talks of Particular Interest
“Sustainable Schools Challenge: Lessons Learnt During Design Phase of the Challenge Projects” — Lowfield Timber Frames has been involved with two of the three schemes, making it valuable to hear the broader project learnings and design challenges.
“How to achieve Welsh Government Embodied Carbon Targets: embracing innovation and managing risk” — This session explored key fundamental design decisions such as form factor, building load placement, load paths, and grid size. These factors, particularly in timber frame construction, have a significant impact on reducing both embodied and operational carbon emissions.
Leading the Conversation on Sustainable School Construction
From early years to secondary schools, timber frame offers a reliable, cost-effective solution aligned with Welsh Government’s net-zero ambitions and the updated Future Schools standards.
Showcasing Our Work
During the visit, we met architects, consultants, and contractors eager to explore how our off-site timber frame systems support high-performance, long-term or modular school buildings.
Looking Ahead
Recurring themes across the event included a strong focus on fabric-first building physics and sustainability. However, these discussions also sat alongside ongoing industry concerns; in particular, there remains a pressing need for clearer guidance on carbon reporting.
As schools aim for faster, greener, and cost-effective builds, Lowfield stays committed to meeting the challenge.
A warm thank you to everyone who visited our stand or attended. Lowfield Timber Frames welcomes the education sector’s commitment to sustainability and values collaboration to address ongoing challenges.
