Employees from Lowfield Timber Frames and SJ Roberts Construction came together on Friday, the 1st of May, for an inspiring 12-hour Spin-a-thon in support of the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund, raising an impressive £3,168.74 for local cancer services.
The fundraising event saw team members cycle continuously for 12 hours on two stationary bikes, covering a remarkable combined distance of 444.58 miles.
The event initially raised £1,584.37 through donations from colleagues, friends, family members and the wider community. The total was then generously match funded by Telford & Wrekin Council, doubling the final amount raised for the charity’s ongoing work supporting cancer patients and their families across the region.
The Lingen Davies Cancer Fund has been supporting cancer services for more than 40 years, funding vital equipment, environments and services for people receiving treatment across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales. The charity works closely with local NHS partners to improve the experience of cancer care and ensure patients can access support closer to home.
Funds raised from events such as the Spin-a-thon also contribute towards the charity’s ambitious Sunflower Appeal, a £5million appeal to grow cancer care across our region. This will be done through the creation of a Lingen Davies Chemotherapy Centre in Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital, which will be up and running by 2029.
Organisers praised the incredible effort shown by everyone involved throughout the day and thanked all those who donated and supported the event.
Special thanks were given to Flash Leisure Centre and Tesco Welshpool for helping make the fundraiser possible, as well as every participant who got on the bikes and every supporter who contributed towards the final total.
