Mount Close

Mount Close in Pontesbury, Shropshire, offers 18 affordable homes. The development includes two- and three-bedroom houses plus one- and two-bedroom bungalows. Housing Plus Group commissioned the project, and SJ Roberts Construction delivered it. The scheme provides much-needed homes while raising standards for energy efficiency and build quality.

Sustainable Construction

The project prioritised affordability while following a fabric-first approach to ensure long-term sustainability and low running costs. Lowfield manufactured precision-engineered timber frames offsite. This method maintained airtightness and continuous insulation beyond standard practice.

The homes include solar PV panels and air source heat pumps, lowering energy bills and cutting carbon emissions for future residents.

Community Impact

Fourteen homes offer affordable rent, and four use a shared ownership scheme for first-time buyers. This mixed-tenure approach strengthens the village community. It provides homes for families with local roots and helps residents access the property ladder.

The finished project compromised of:

  • Two 1-Bedroom Bungalows
  • Four 2-Bedroom Bungalows
  • Eight 2 Bedroom Houses
  • Four 3-Bedroom Houses

Sarah Boden, Chief Executive at Housing Plus Group, said:
“This development provides affordable options for people rooted in Pontesbury. We enjoyed celebrating with our partners and look forward to welcoming residents.”

Coordinated Collaboration

Lowfield’s offsite manufacture allowed timber frame structures to go up and become watertight quickly. This reduced on-site time and enabled earlier follow-on trades. Close coordination between Lowfield Timber Frames and SJ Roberts resolved design details and service routes before production, lowering risks and ensuring smooth installation.

Mike Sambrook, Managing Director at SJ Roberts, said:
“The Mount Close homes provide essential housing and include solar panels and air source heat pumps, making them cost-effective to run. We hope residents enjoy their new homes.”
