The Llys Onnen development delivers 43 one- and two-bedroom apartments on a brownfield site in Abergele. The three-storey buildings use timber frame construction. The scheme meets EPC A standards and focuses on sustainability, efficiency, and modern living.
Each apartment includes low-carbon technologies, such as Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP), Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems, and Photovoltaic (PV) panels. These features reduce energy use and lower running costs for residents.
The project sits on a piled foundation with a raft slab. It shows how offsite timber frame solutions can deliver high-quality, sustainable homes that meet the growing need for affordable housing.
Our Involvement
Castlemead Group appointed Lowfield Timber Frames to design, supply, and erect the timber frame kit and roof structure for this flagship project.
Our design and engineering teams collaborated closely with Castlemead. They delivered a precision-engineered timber frame system that achieved the project’s performance and sustainability goals.
From early design to on-site completion, strong communication and teamwork ensured a smooth process and exceptional build quality.
Client Testimonial
Bart Wilkins, Contracts Director said:
“Lowfield Timber Frames have demonstrated exemplary service and product quality with the supply and erection of the timber frame kit and roof structure at our Llys Onnen, Abergele Project.
Being the first project delivered by Lowfield Timber Frames for Castlemead Group, it has led to a sustained partnership between our organisations.
Lowfield Timber Frames are now appointed for the sixth project with Castlemead Group, with others planned.
This demonstrates the consistent quality and service standards delivered at all levels – from Sales, Estimating, Design, and Contract Management, to the Erectors on site.”
The Outcome
This development stands as a strong representation of how timber frame construction can meet UK sustainability targets.
Designed with the local community in mind, Llys Onnen will make a real difference by offering modern, comfortable, and sustainable living spaces for individuals and families.
It also marks our ongoing partnership with Castlemead Group, built on shared values of quality, collaboration, and innovation.
By combining sustainable design with efficient offsite manufacturing, this project highlights what’s possible when teamwork and expertise come together.
