‘State of the art’ school development by Pave Aways at Harlescott Junior School in Shrewsbury for Shropshire County Council.
Pave Aways was awarded an £8.44m contract by Shropshire Council to expand primary school provision in north Shrewsbury. The build method was to construct a timber frame school saving time, waste and ensuring quality and consistence throughout.
The new flagship facility in Featherbed Lane will allow Sundorne Infant School and Nursery to move from its existing home on Corndon Crescent and relocate on to the same site as Harlescott Junior School, enabling the Haughmond Federation to consolidate its infant and junior provision on a single site.
The development consists of:
• Nursery setting
• Two nursery classrooms
• Four reception classrooms
• Eight classrooms for KS 1
• Four classrooms for KS 2
• Pupil hub
• Hall
• Kitchen
• Offices and meeting rooms
Lowfield Timber Frames supplied and erected the timber frame school structure for the project on behalf of Pave Aways in early March 2021. The estimated erection programme was 10 weeks for Phase 1 (large block) and six weeks for Phase 2 (2 x small blocks).
KS1 2875m2, Hub 177m2, KS2 543m2. TOTAL 3595m2.
Innovative design and building methods have been used to create a carbon neutral building to support Shropshire Council’s ambition to reduce its emissions to zero by 2030.
