Dolforgan View, Kerry, is a 62 home timber frame development initially designed to meet the ‘B’ EPC category. In late 2019, WYRO Developments, in conjunction with Lowfield Timber Frame recognised the potential to achieve ‘A’ EPC status and much improved energy efficiency. Work began to focus on re-design the Phase 2 homes in early 2020 and an ambitious goal of achieving net-zero carbon emission status for the final phase of the development.
All of the final 17 Phase 3 homes utilised improved insulation, air source heat pumps, triple glazing with PassivHaus approved window casements, insulated plasterboard to window reveals, 7 kW EV chargers with solar option, 4kW solar, solar iBoost hot water diverter, and the last 8 homes including hybrid inverters and 5 kW of solar battery storage. Phase 3 homes all achieved EPC A 100 to EPC A 103.
Development Manager Mark Bamber said:
“Lowfield Timber Frames have been the sole supplier of the structural timber frames, panels and cassettes for our 62 House Development at Kerry in Mid-Wales. Lowfield Timber Frames played an integral part in helping us achieve our path to Net Zero Carbon emissions, with all of our Energy Efficiency rated homes at Kerry sold. We’ve worked hard to continually improve energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of our new homes by introducing new technologies to help reduce the CO2 emissions to a net amount of zero”.
More low-energy and Passivhaus projects
WYRO Developments Ltd, a joint venture between local companies Wynnstay Group Plc and SJR Group, constructed the homes.
Mark Bamber, Managing Director of WYRO, said: “The properties suit everyone from first-time buyers through to those looking to upsize into larger homes. We’ve ensured we have a good mix of homes on the development. Demand for Energy Efficient Homes is becoming more popular with the focus on climate change and the cost of energy”
